Endowments

Endowments provide permanent income in support of the work of the libraries and provide a steady annual flow of financial support, which is essential to collection building. The principal of the endowment remains untouched while only the earned income from the endowment is used to make purchases. An endowment can be named in honor of or in memory of a family member, friend or loved one. An endowment benefits students and scholars in perpetuity by providing a lasting legacy.

An endowment can be established within the George A. Smathers Libraries with a donation of $30,000 or more and can be funded over a period of years. A fund can be started with only $2,000. Investment results from endowments may be used for general or very specific purposes, depending on the wishes of the donor. Endowment opportunities are plentiful and in virtually every subject matter.
